Divide and Conquer Your Content!

I imagine it’s quite safe to say that most of us in the search marketing sphere have heard the quote “content is king” several thousand times or so. But is it really? Is content truly the trump card? Will one thousand words of moderately relevant content get me to page one tomorrow? (more…)

Mobile Search – Time to Get Active

At this point in time, it is often projected that one out of three search queries from smart phone users are looking for a company local to them. The benefit for the local business is that the user is close by and that the searcher is looking to take action pretty quick. This frontier of search remains new, as this medium of search is on the rise. (more…)

Taffic’s Up! So What!

Quite a few Web optimization practitioners along with clients of Search engine optimization companies like-mindedly dream of watching natural search referrals climb from month-to-month and from a year-over-year point of view for that matter. Even though any Search engine marketing firm can boast the ability to lift natural targeted visitors to a website, the dream of this success is similar to that of my fantasy of a red Ferrari…without an engine. Where are you going with your keyword strategy?

It’s important to know where you’re going before you start your journey.  Carefully choosing keywords and optimizing your pages is only one step in arriving at your link building destination.

1. Choose target search terms (keywords). For SEO, this means you must decide which keywords you are targeting.  And you must include those keywords in the link text of internal and external (from other sites) links.
2. Group your target keywords into market sectors. So, for example, if your website is an online garden center you might categorize your keywords into groups, including the following: (more…)

How long until you see improvement in search placement?

If your site has already been on the Web for some time, and is already listed in all of the major directories, then you will probably begin to see improvements in your search engine rankings within 4-6 weeks.

If your site is not listed in the major directories, then adding it to the directories will have a significant positive impact. If you pay for expedited review of your site at Yahoo, LookSmart, Business.com and others, than you will see improvement the next time Google, Yahoo, Bing and others update their spider-driven indices. You need to be prepared to wait for your site to be added to the Open Directory. Some sites have waited over a year to be added.

A total rebuild of your website will result in an improvement in your search engine rankings relatively quickly. You should continue to see improvements for 6-9 months, as the changes to your site are indexed throughout the databases that drive the major search engines.

E-mail marketing a bright star in a dim economy

One question has dominated my conversations with clients and in online forums over the past several weeks:

Is my e-mail marketing plan recession-proof??

The answer is that it certainly should be. E-mail marketing is something that companies turned to initially because it was an inexpensive way to reach large numbers of customers. Over time it has evolved and today has one of the highest ROIs of any marketing expenditure.

Double Opt-In

You may have heard a lot recently about the process of ‘double opt-in’ email campaigns. Here’s a brief look at what double opt-in actually means and the pros and cons.

In a single opt-in, people submit an email address and ask (opt) for specific emails to be sent to them. The inherent issue with a single opt-in is that people might submit their name inadvertently, or someone may have submitted their name for them, against their wishes.
